You're getting ready to bring your ICU patient upstairs. You make sure the oxygen tank on your stretcher is full like the responsible nurse that you are. Good thing you checked!! It's empty! What do you do with the empty tank and where do you get a new one??

Think...Hall 2.

Not a single interpreter ipad is working but you need to do your next neuro check...now. How do you reach an interpreter?

Place an order for interpreter services 24/7!

Your behavioral health patient is currently punching through the glass doors of their yellow zone room because they aren't able to have a spoon with their cereal. Which widely-known safety policy should have been explained to them prior to placing their order?

Finger Foods Policy!

Between 7pm and 7am, one extension becomes unavailable. Which one?

Distribution!

If you need something from them you can always page them through the paging system. Alternatively, service response will often take the message and page them for you overnight.

What popular DME item do you not need to call resource tech for?

Shoulder slings! Those are readily available in the mother room (all the way in the back on the right).

"Trigger to room 2, new patient". You and the rest of the core nurses (yay! team nursing!) head to room 2. The patient was triggered for tachycardia and hypotension. EMS tells you the patient was febrile to 104º F at the outside hospital. No interventions implemented at the OSH other than a 22G in the L pinky which is currently running the 500 cc/hr bolus the patient arrived on. You help EMS transfer the patient over to our stretcher and receive a first degree burn (no not actually) from the patient's skin. Triage vitals say 97ºF temporal. You go to check an oral temp only to find ...the thermometer doesn't work in room 1! Darn. How do we get the thermometer fixed?

WHAT A DAY! It's 5pm on a Monday A shift. You're finally delivering your ICU patient upstairs after they've boarded in the ED for the last 18 hours. You're sweating from pushing that silly stretcher that drifts whenever you turn while carrying your ninja turtle backpack! The MICU nurse asks if they can swap monitors with you. What do you respond?

No. NO. nO. no. NO!

Not sure how else to phrase this...no deal! Their monitors aren't compatible with our central monitors and ours aren't with theirs!

Also - our 3-lead set ups? ...well, they're OUR 3-lead set ups! Please bring them back! This is a common reason you can never find one!

Your CDU patient requests to save half of their lunch in the patient fridge. What must you place on the container before placing the food in the refrigerator?

Patient label and a date!

You sit down to start your shift. You're wiping down your keyboard with a purple top wipe when *what was that??* you see something scurry by! Oh no!! It's a cockroach!!! What do you do???

First of all (and this is super important), if you are brave (unlike myself) ...please kill that thing. Ew.

Second, there's "an exterminator". You can call 59700 and let service response know exactly where you had this traumatizing experience and they'll be sure to send someone over "in the next few weeks".

Your monitor ECG alarm reads 160, but your pulse ox says your patient's pulse is 80. You've already tried changing the primary lead from the RN station...sorry, no luck! What's your next troubleshooting tip?

Check your lead placement!!

(You may want to manually check the patient's pulse first...)

This popular lunch spot can serve you smoothies and warm sandwiches, however, they close at 2pm. Where are they located?

Klarman 3

You take your first bathroom break of the day at 6:52 pm so you don't pee your pants in the middle of giving report. You head to the lobby bathroom only to find the third stall overflowing for the 78th time this year. How should you report this?

59700!

They'll send someone over if you sound panicked enough.

Explain the process of fitting a patient for an aircast boot.

Your behavioral health has been boarding in the department for 6 days. The patient is letting you take their blood pressure. Two seconds later, you find them pulling a metal pocket knife out of their pocket! What safety intervention should have been performed on day 1 to prevent this?

Have your patients "wanded" by calling 29111.

400

Your patient is on an X2 in the hallway. The monitor suddenly starts alarming like the world is going to end soon. You check the monitor and find that dreaded "Battery empty!!" sign flashing at you. You go to swap the battery out only to find the spare X2 batteries and X2 charging stations have been removed............How do you get a charged battery?

You'll likely have to search for another X2, preferably on mounted to the central monitor in a patient room. The central monitors charge them, so you can always swap them out!

Your behavioral health patient has copious snacks in their belongings. They inform you they have no interest in keeping them at bedside and tell you to lock away the half opened bags of Doritos, cereal boxes, and half-eaten sandwich. All they want to keep is the half drank soda bottle they keep sipping from. What unfortunate news must you deliver?

We can't keep opened food in the belongings closet! Only seal food that does not need to be refrigerated! Sorry cockroaches!

Your patient with airborne disseminated zoster is placed in room 52 so they can have "a room with a door". However, the door doesn't actually close. Who can you alert?

Describe the paperwork process associated with issuing a DME item.

Once an attending places an order for a DME item, it prints to the H10 printer ONLY. You must attach a product code label and a patient label to this paperwork and place it in the DME basket (located behind the UCOs...it's blue!). Don't forget to document on epic too!

Your patient is under the care of the inpatient team. Your first contact has one of those systems set up where every message gets "opened" but not a single one gets seen. However, your patient is triggering and you need their input! How do you get their attention?

Use the epic trigger system!

Also feel free to use the "urgent" messages on epic chat!

If need be, add the attending...

500

Your printer says it needs new toner. You've let the UCOs know but they haven't been able to stop by. Can you change the toner? If so, how?

Supply closet in the CDU!

It's after 7pm and the kitchen is closed! What can you offer the patient that does not come from the department refrigerators? (Hint: only on weekdays until 11PM).

Something from the kiosk in the lobby! You can bring a patient sticker to the kiosk in the lobby to get food for your patient!

500

Your patient needs a bariatric hospital bed. They will likely be boarding in the department a few days. How do you obtain one?

Trick question!

You have to order one from "Sizewise," full instructions on the BI Portal. These beds are usually delivered within 1 business day and allow for motorized movement of the bed. There are specific green sheets that are used for these patients and not all lifts can accommodate all weights!

Your patient comes in with a cast on her arm reporting numbness/tingling to the fingers. They're cold to the touch. The ED attending would like to remove the cast and ask you to bring the cast cutter to bedside. Where do you obtain it?

The mother room!
