What is the major product of photosynthesis?
Glucose (C6H12O6)
Where, exactly, do the light reactions occur?
On the thylakoid membrane
What is the 3rd element on the Periodic Table?
Lithium
In which organelle does aerobic cellular respiration occur?
Mitochondria
What does aerobic mean?
Needs oxygen
In which organelle does photosynthesis take place?
Chloroplast
What is produced by the light independent reactions?
Glucose (C6H12O6)
Mr. Martin is a citizen of two countries. What are those two countries?
USA and Canada
The inner membrane of the mitochondria is very "foldy". What are these folds called?
Cristae
Is glycolysis aerobic or anaerobic?
anaerobic
Where is chlorophyll found?
Thylakoid membranes
What are the major inputs for the light dependent reactions?
Light and H2O
What is the tallest volcano/mountain known to man?
Olympus Mons on Mars
What are the major inputs and outputs of the ETC?
Inputs: 10 NADH, 2 FADH2, and Oxygen
Outputs: 34 ATP, and H2O (also NAD+ and FAD)
What are the two types of fermentation?
Lactic acid and alcoholic
How is the rate of photosynthesis affected by an increase in H2O?
How is the rate of photosynthesis affected by a decrease in O2?
H2O up --> rate up
O2 down --> rate unaffected
What are the three molecules produced by the light reactions (outputs)?
Hint: two of them are the purpose of the light reactions, and one is a waste product.
NADPH, ATP, and O2
There is a common fruit that is almost completely genetically identical to nearly every single one of its kind in the world.
Which fruit is it?
The banana
What is "the final acceptor" in the electron transport chain?
Oxygen (O2)- it grabs two electrons from the chain and two H+ from ATP Synthase and turns into water
What are the major inputs and outputs of the ETC?
Inputs: 10 NADH, 2 FADH2, and Oxygen
Outputs: 34 ATP, and H2O (also NAD+ and FAD)
Describe how a plant would be photosynthetically different (if at all) if the pigments it used were black.
It would be able to absorb more light, so it would be able to do more photoynthesis
Describe the entire process of photosynthesis from start to finish
Inputs, location, products for light reactions
then
Inputs, location, products for dark reactions
Light and H2O go into the thylakoid membranes, where O2 is produced as a byproduct and NADPH and ATP are produced as energy carriers for the dark reactions.
ATP and NADPH provide the energy for the Calvin Cycle in the stroma, 6CO2 enters, and Calvin Cycle turns the 6CO2 into glucose
How exactly does cyanide kill a person?
Cyanide blocks oxygen from picking up electrons at the end of the ETC, so the ETC gets backed up and can't flow.
When this happens, humans are no longer able to do aerobic respiration and quickly die of a lack of ATP.
What is the equation (with correct numbers) for Aerobic Cellular Respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 --> 6CO2 + 6H2O + 38 ATP
What are the major inputs and outputs of the Krebs Cycle? (with correct numbers)
Inputs: 2 Acetyl-CoA
Outputs: 6 NADH, 2 FADH2, 2 ATP, and 4CO2
