Independent - the variable you manipulate, the thing you are trying to show that affects other parts of the study
Dependent - the variable you measure after changes to the independent, this variable depends on the changes to the other variable.

How is pKa related to pH? What does it tell you?
pH - amount of hydrogen in a solution
pKA - acid dissociation constant, what a specific molecule will do at a certain pH
The lower the pKa, the easier it is for the molecule to release hydrogen's into the solution, the stronger the acid
