Between two different kinds of organisms, what are physical features with the same anatomical structure?

Homologous structures

100

Who wrote the Origin of Species?

Charles Darwin

100

What is a group of organisms that God created as distinct from other groups of animals?

Kind

100

Who was one of the first scientists to notice that certain cliffs must of been the result of secondary processes?

James Hutton

100

What are organisms that supposedly have characteristics similar to modern man?

Hominids

200

Who proposed the theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics?

Jean-Baptiste Lamarck

200
According to evolutionists, what were the first organisms to form?

Prokaryotic cells

200

Which view says that the days of Creation are analogies are analogies (not 24-hour days)?

Analogical day view

200

What are certain fossils of accepted ages?

Index fossils

200

What is the idea that all living things came from a common ancestor?

Descent with modification

300

What did Thomas Malthus believe?

That there was a struggle for survival among humans whenever resources are scarce

300

What is panspermia?

The idea that life didn't form on earth but rather came from earth from somewhere else

300

Which theory says that the days of Genesis 1 are not are not 24-hour days but long periods of time?

Day-age theory

300

What concrete, no-doubt results did Stanley Miller and Harold Urey's experiment yield?

NONE

300

How many transitional forms have we found?

ZERO

400

What's punctuated equilibrium?

The idea that evolution can happen relatively short bursts interspersed by quick periods of change

400

What is mutation synthesis?

Added mutations as the engine of change to explain how natural selection chose which organisms were most fit to reproduce

400

What's the main idea of the Gap theory?

There is a huge period of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2

400

What is significant about Hugo de Vries?

He noted that new varieties in organisms could be the result of mutation

400

What is speciation?

The formation of new varieties of related organisms

500

What is abiogenesis? How was it disproved by Louis Pasteur?

Abiogenesis - the possibility of life arising from nonlife

Louis Pasteur disproved abiogenesis by putting microorganisms in a solution in an airtight flask.  He heated the flask to kill the microorganisms. No new microorganisms were found in the flask

500
Explain why mutations most likely didn't cause evolution?

Mutations, with very few exceptions) do not cause evolution.  Speciation requires a gain of genetic information, which is something that does not happen with mutations.  Over millions of years, there would be enough mutations to render life impossible

500

What was created during the seven days of Creation?

Day 1 - space, day, and night

Day 2 - atmosphere

Day 3 - seas and land

Day 4 - sun, moon, stars, and planets

Day 5 - sea and flying creatures

Day 6 - land animals and humans

Day 7 - rest

500

Explain how the Christian view of evolution is different than the secular view of evolution.

Christian view of evolution: evolution does exist, but just variation of species, not the formation of new species

Secular view of evolution: mutations allowed for complex life to originate from simple organisms

500

What is the difference between behavioral ecology and ethology?

Behavioral ecology - the ethology of an animal as it relates specifically to evolution

Ethology - the behavior of animals
