Black Wall Street
Hip hop, rap, reggae, R&B, jazz, rock n roll, the blues, house, techno, and more types of music can all be credited to Black creators originally. Country music also was formed by Black influence, namely its use of this instrument, which is a direct descendant of the West African lute.
The banjo is a variation of the West African lutes brought to America by slaves. The sound was appropriated and spread to white audiences through minstrel and blackface shows, and popularized by white Country artists who originally sang many songs taken from black sources – often without credit.
This type of racism refers to the fact that communities of color suffer the harmful effects of pollution at higher rates than white populations. Examples include “Cancer Alley” in Louisiana where a concentration of polluting facilities in a primarily Black community increase the risk of cancer by 700x or Flint, Michigan where residents haven’t had access to clean water in 7 years.
Environmental Racism
