Name one way you can regulate
Head down, breathing, stretching, close eyes, any others....
You can earn this letter for transitioning appropriately
What is YOUR S!

Define regulation
a chance to calm body & check-in with your brain
in response to a behavior that is not successful
Students should walk in the halls like this.
Right side
Hands to self
Quietly
Less than 6 squares
True or False:
You do earn missing work when in 3R
TRUE!
You are not in class, therefore you are missing class work
Students complete this to start class.
What is THE WARM-UP
How many 4th grade students go to Murrell?
This may happen if you choose not to regulate.
Missing work/ Time out of Class
3R
Demonstrate:
Transition to the next class
Line up at door, with materials, on blue lines, silently.
ISS or Not:
Puck calls Tank a cry-baby. After getting reset by Ms. Pye, Puck tells Tank to quit crying.
Yes, Puck would have ISS for baiting.
She was given a warning and continued to try and make Linus mad.
A way to earn classroom $
raising hand
completing homework
participating
kind words/actions
any others?
What school did Ms. Pye go to grad school at?
Vanderbilt!
Regulation or Not:
Jazzy is supposed to be doing his math worksheet, but is just sitting there staring at it after a few minutes. Ms. Pye tells him to reset and that his direction was to complete his work. He says "no" in an angry voice and continues to stare at his paper.
It does seem like Jazzy needs to regulate.
Even if he has a safe body, he is not speaking with good purpose towards Ms. Pye or following directions and is showing some signs of dysregulation or frustration.
This would be Missing Work (and could escalate further) if he continues.
Demonstrate:
Using the safety zone during class
Ask first (verbally or nonverbally) and wait for a "yes"
Line up at door to wait for an adult
Safely and Quietly
3R or Not:
Leo is asked to use the safety zone. While on his way, Leo yells "F this school".
No, not 3R. However, if he started and continued to call someone a profane name (such as "you f-ing b word) he would have 3R for baiting
Leo would have missing work for not regulating appropriately.
Demonstrate:
The correct way to use the peace corner
Ask first (and wait for a yes!), walk, use items responsibly.
Back to seat when timer is up, potentially after talking with an adult
What grade did all 3 of your classroom staff start in at Murrell?
7th grade!
Regulation or Not:
Cowboy is working on his social studies project. The work is getting really difficult and slams his pencil down on the table.
ALSO: What could he do instead?
YES, Cowboy needs to regulate. Slamming items is a sign you are dysregulated.
He could have asked for help, asked for a break, or put his head down to breathe.
This is the next step after a student does not regulate appropriately in class.
Regulate outside (hallway or safety zone)
If refusal to do so, then it is 3R for an ODA.
3R or Not:
Class is getting boring for Ezra. He crawls under his desk and picks at the chair. When Ms. Pye asks him if he needs a break, Ezra does not respond. Ms. Pye asks him to use the safety zone. Ezra remains in his area after a 1 minute timer.
Yes, Ezra has an ODA because he was not in his designated area.
When asked to use the safety zone, you will have a minute to collect yourself and transition.
