What is the function of blood

distribute nutrients, oxygen & maintain homeostasis

100

What is the function of the heart?

to pump blood throughout the body

100

What are the organs of the nervous system? (name 3)

Brain, spinal cord, nerves

100

What effect does exercise have on both your circulatory and respiratory systems? Be specific

Your heart rate will increase and breathing rate will increase

100

What is an observation?

Information obtained through the senses.

200

What is the purpose of Guard Cells & Stomata?

allows for gas exchange in the plant and helps maintain homeostasis

200

What are the 5 organs of the circulatory system?

heart, veins, arteries, capillaries & Blood

200

What is the function of the nervous system?

respond to stimuli, control movements, sense pain, etc.

200

What is the function of the respiratory system in terms of gas exchange?

Take in oxygen, exhale carbon dioxide

200

How is the human body organized from SMALLEST to LARGEST?

Cell --> Tissue --> Organ --> Organ System --> Organism

300

A person not producing enough insulin in their body can lead to

high blood sugar/diabetes

300

What is the difference between veins and arteries?

Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart and veins bring deoxygenated blood back to the heart to be pumped to the lungs.

300

Which two systems work together to remove waste products from blood?

respiratory and excretory systems

300

What are the grape-like structures in the lungs that are the site of gas exchange?

Alveoli

300

What is a feedback mechanism?

Helps keep body conditions near a normal, steady state

400

How do drugs/medication disrupt your nervous system in the synapse?

Neurons will not be able to communicate with each other properly

400

How does your blood get oxygen?

Blood comes to your heart through veins, then it is pumped to your lungs to pick up oxygen. The blood is pumped back to your heart and then pumped to the rest of your body.

400

Which structures in a human transmit electrochemical messages?

Neurons

400

Humans breathe more rapidly during exercise than before it because during exercise the blood contains

An increased level of carbon dioxide

400

The largest organ IN the body is your

skin

500

What would happen if the myelin sheath of a neuron was damaged?

Chemical messages would be lost and not be sent properly

500

Describe the pathway of blood using the model we discussed in class. Use the terms oxygen rich and oxygen poor.

Blood is in the heart (oxygen poor) and goes from right atrium to the right ventricle. It is then pumped to the lungs and becomes oxygen rich. From the lungs, it is pumped back to the heart to be pumped to the rest of the body.

500

What is an interaction of the nervous system with either the respiratory system, or the circulatory system.

Circulatory and Respiratory--The nervous system interacts with these systems by controlling involuntary actions, such as breathing and heart beat.

500

What is an interaction of the respiratory system with your circulatory system?

Your circulatory systems sends deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs so your lungs can give the blood the oxygen it needs.

500

How does an athlete get nutrients to their muscles?

Nutrients from the food move from the digestive system to the circulatory system, which then carried them to the muscular system.
