This small region of the brain is located between the hindbrain and forebrain.
Midbrain
This lobe of the brain recieves information from the visual fields.
Occipital Lobe
This part of the brain lies below the thalamus, and directs several maintenance activities via the pituitary gland.
Hypothalamus
This is part of the limbic system of the brain, and is involved in long-term memory formation and memory retrieval.
Hippocampus
This cortex at the rear of the frontal lobe controls voluntary movements.
Motor Cortex
This part of the brain is an extension of the spinal cord, and includes the pons and medulla.
Brainstem
This lobe of the brain is involved in speaking, muscle movements, and in making plans and judgements.
Frontal Lobe
This part of the brain recieves information from all senses except smell, and routes that information to higher brain regions that deal with seeing, hearing, tasting, and touching.
Thalamus
This part of the brain enables nonverbal learning and memory, processes sensory input, as well as coordinates moevement output and balance.
Cerebellum
The most influencial endocrine gland, is influnced by the hypothalamus to regulate growth and control other endocrine glands.
Pituitary Gland
This region of the brain contains the cerebellum and brainstem.
This part of the brain is the body's ultimate control and processing center, including 8 lobes and 4 hemispheres.
Cerebral Cortex
(DOUBLE POINTS!!!)This nerve network travels through the brainstem into the thalamus and plays an important role in controlling arousal.
Reticular Formation
This part of the brainstem controls hearbeat and breathing.
Medulla
This center of language in the brain controls the expression of speech.
Broca's Area
This region of the brain is comprised of the cerebrum, thalamus, and hypothalamus.
Forebrain
(DOUBLE POINTS!!!)These lobes include the auditory areas, and recieve information primarily from an opposite ear.
Temporal Lobes
This part of the brainstem coordinates movements and controls sleep.
Pons
This part of the brain is the intricate fabric of interconnected neural cells covering the cerebral hemispheres, the body's ultimate control and information-processing center.
Cerebral Cortex
This language center of the brain controls the comprehension of speech.
Wernike's Area
The largest part of the brain, this area initiates and coordinates movement and regulates temperature. Other areas of this part of the brain enable speech, judgment, thinking and reasoning, problem-solving, emotions and learning. (Includes all the lobes of the brain)
Cerebrum
These lobes recieve sensory input for touch and body position.
Parietal Lobes
This part of the brain found in the limbic system consists of two lima-bean sized neural clusters, and is linked to emotions like aggression and fear.
This part of the brain consists of a large band of nueral fibers that connects the two brain hemispheres, carrying messages between them.
Corpus Callosum
(DOUBLE POINTS!!!)This method of studying the brain tracks temporarily radioactive glucose consumed by brain to show "hot spots".
Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
