Some of the earliest cooling systems have been around for almost as long as people have been storing food, with manmade ice boxes or dug pits in the ground. The first man-made refrigeration was designed in 1834, but the common household refrigerator only became common in the early 1900's. Still, that's over a hundred years of refrigeration!
To Explain
The article How to Change Climate Change by Linda Grant describes different ways individuals can help fight climate change. Grant says one way that someone may help might be by increasing their recycling habits, rudely ignoring that nor everybody has access to recycling. The article also states that you can start a smelly compost garden in your house. I'm not sure Grant realizes how much work that will take.
