People who were rich enough got to ride in cabins, which was very expensive. However, most people had to sneak onto timber ships, also known as “coffin ships” or “fever ships” because a lot of people died on them due to the lack of food, air, light, and water. Once they make it, (if they make it), they had to be put in quarantine stations until they were not sick anymore/better. Thousands of people died in these stations simply because there was not enough doctors and nurses.

Railways increased trades, helped towns and cities grow, and created more jobs for people. It also took people less time travelling, and they could visit family and friends, plus they were able to work farther away. Lastly, there was more government debt in each colony, which lead to the government having to increase taxes to pay for the dept.
