What is GAMES 1010 - Survey of Games?
This course discusses theories for how to examine values and morals through video games and how games can impact society.
What is GAMES 3020 - Ethics in Videogames?
Part 1 of a two-part sequence, students in this course form teams and start initial development of their final game projects.
What is GAMES 4500 - Capstone I?
These are courses within games that students choose to enroll in and allow for specialization in different areas of game development, such as design, art, and production.
What are GAMES Electives courses?
Students that are interested in the engineering side of game development will declare this degree major, with a Games emphasis.
What is Computer Science/Software Development?
This required intro course discusses principles of art and design, and gives students hands-on experience with 2D/3D art software.
What is GAMES 1050 - Digital Content Creation?
One of two projects courses, students in this course work in small teams to develop a 3D game.
What is GAMES 3710 - Trad Game Development?
Part 2 of a two-part sequence, students in this course finish development on their final game projects from Part 1.
What is GAMES 4510 - Capstone II?
These are courses students choose that are in an area of interest outside of games but are still relevant to their education as a game developer.
What are Allied Hours courses?
Students interested in a career in games, but not necessarily in game development, may add this option to their current major.
What is a Games Minor?
This is the first of two required coding courses, where students learn the basics of writing computer code.
What is COMP 1010 - Programming for All I?
One of two projects courses, students in this course work in small teams to develop a game that serves a goal beyond entertainment, such as education, health, social issues, and politics.
What is GAMES 3720 - Alt Game Development?
Students in the Capstone course retain these rights with regards to their game projects.
What are Intellectual Property (IP) rights?
These are courses every student, regardless of major, needs to take, with categories defined by state law.
What are General Education courses?
This is the current graduate program within Utah Games, where students choose to specialize in one of five tracks: art, design, engineering, production, or tech art.
What is the Masters in Entertainment Arts and Engineering (MEAE)?
This is the follow-up to the previous coding course, where students learn more advanced coding topics, such as object-oriented programming.
What is COMP 1020 - Programming for All II?
This name is given to a year-long sequence of two courses that students must complete in their final year of study.
What is Capstone?
The event where Capstone game projects are revealed for the first time, in the form of trailers and artistic statements by the dev team.
What is Capstone Direct/Utah Games Direct?
These courses cover one-time, occasional, or experimental topics, and topics vary between sections.
What are Special Topics courses (GAMES 2900/4900)?
This is an extracurricular program housed within Utah Games, with teams that compete in games like Overwatch, League of Legends, Valorant, and Rocket League.
What is Utah Esports?
This is the name given to the four required intro courses for B.S. in Games students.
What are Foundational Courses?
While not formally considered a major required course, this course is a prerequisite to the projects courses, and it covers how game resources are produced and integrated into a game.
What is GAMES 3010 - Asset Pipeline?
The showcase at the end of the Spring semester where students present their finished game projects to the public.
What is Utah Games Launch?
You can request this only if a course does not allow you to enroll in it and you either meet the pre-requisites or have faculty approval.
What is a permission code?
In games, these function more like entry-level positions, so many students do not qualify to apply for these until their senior year. Therefore, they are not a requirement for the major.
