How do you do bobs?

 Say 1-2-3-gasp all students will go underwater.  Using your hand you will motion them 1-2-3 and make a flame motion to signal them to blow bubbles.  Once you see they are all out of breath use one finger and point it up to cue them to come back out of the water.  As soon as they come back up, repeat the cycle.  Do this 10 times.

Students need to have straight kicks.  Their arms need to come out one at a time.  The arm gets aligned with the shoulder, they turn their hand facing outward. They will drop their arm to airplane position and then bring it to the soldier.

Describe what recognizable butterfly means for shark 1

it's the roll that starts from your shoulders and goes down your body all the way to your legs to end with a dolphin kick.  Your body ends up doing a whip motion that ends with the dolphin kick.  Make sure the student's head stays looking down and does not move with the body.

Describe Starts and turns for shark 2

  • Freestyle flip turns:Swim towards the wall doing proper Freestyle.  Once your hands touch the wall, tuck your chin in and bring your knees to your chest.  Then start rolling forward while exhaling through your nose.  Use your arms in a circle motion to create momentum in the direction you are going.  Then land with both feet on the wall and bring arms into sharkarm position.  Then push off the wall while on your back and begin doing 2 dolphin kicks and rotate your body to be on your stomach to then do 2 more dolphin kicks, then go back to freestyle.

  • Backstroke flipturns: as students approach the wall during backstroke instructor cues roll, then  once your hands touch the wall, tuck your chin in and bring your knees to your chest.  Then start rolling forward while exhaling through your nose.  Use your arms in a circle motion to create momentum in the direction you are going.  Then land with both feet on the wall and bring arms into sharkarm position.  Then push off the wall while on your back and begin doing 4 dolphin kicks and resume backstroke.

  • Breaststroke and Butterfly Open turn: As you approach the wall from your stroke both hands touch the wall. Grab the wall and place both feet on the wall, then bring your elbow down to your hip, twist your body and extend into sharkarms as you push off the wall underwater.( when starting to learn this turn, do the turn slowly ,as they progress. Try to speed up this turn)
