Steam is already flowing through Papa Judah’s ears and the day has not yet started. Bubby begins her day at 7:30 because she must not be late to her “job: in the school that she no longer “really works in”. When the last bell rings, Papa Judah is calmly waiting outside ready to drive to the airport. Bubby says that she must go back to Staten Island to pack. When they get back to Staten island, her hair must be blown professionally and it will not be acceptable unless she walks there and back. Once she returns, after subtly making an “important” stop at the library, she checks her summer school emails in December, and then she tells Papa Judah that he is making her late and that they must go.

Bubby tells Papa Judah that she is going to meet him at the other end of the boat. At this point- he is already set up for failure. That is 1000 feet of distraction- She moves 10 feet and meets a party of 10 from Georgia, an hour later she knows the name of every extended family member and their spouses. She moves on and there is a FREE (well sort of) “Broadway” show that is calling her name. She ended up sitting at a table with a nice, young couple that she was giving her advice to about a healthy marriage and forgot to watch the show. She moves to the next room and there is an Art Auction where she meets an older Jewish Couple who happened to have met her on the train in 1971. They all walk together and after 200 feet, she bumps into one of her students that graduated her school in Brooklyn- after catching up on his entire life history she finally broke out in a run and found Papa Judah sleeping peacefully and happily on a bench.

A week and a half before any trip, Papa Judah takes out his suitcase and happily finds out that he was so efficient after their last trip that his bag was fully packed and ready to go.
Bubby is reminded the morning of departure that she must pack. She is out galavanting when she remembers that she needs a few more shopping items. She asks Papa Judah for directions and she is told by daddy that if she walks on the North side of the street, she will see a red star that turns towards the sunset, at which point she is supposed to turn to the Southeast side only to realize that she was actually walking in a complete square and the store was directly downstairs and that it was closing in 2 business days so she made it just in time to buy clothes for her trip that was now in two hours.
