What does a "conflict of interest" mean?

A conflict of interest is when you have or could have a competing interest or loyalty as a result of your role as a BYC member and other things you do. It’s when decisions you make as a BYC member could be impacted or could impact, with your duties, obligations or interests elsewhere. Conflicts of interest are a normal part of life, particularly when people are living in close proximity to their work, within smaller communities and when they are engaged with that community and wear multiple ‘hats’ such as sibling, member on multiple committees, teammate and friend.
