FIXED vs. GROWTH MINDSET

A fixed mindset means you believe that intelligence, talent, abilities and other qualities can’t be developed and are unchangeable.  If you’re not good at something, you think you will never be good at it. A growth mindset means you believe intelligence, talent and ability can be developed with practice and effort. 

Each team is going to be given a sheet with 15 fix or growth mindset examples.  Read each example and label it as a fixed or growth mindset.  After you answer all 15, come up with your own fixed and growth mindset example.

CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLES

Our perspective and the way we view situations can either fuel or drain our confidence.  Focusing on the aspects of an event or situation that are in our control is one way to fuel confidence.  Trying to control the uncontrollable can drain confidence, increased stress and frustration, and decrease performance.  

ACTIVITY:

With your team, list all the thing you can control and all the things you can’t control in this situation.

SITUATION: It’s audition day. You wake up and it is so cold outside. On the way to the audition there is traffic and you will not be there as early as you wanted. You arrive 15 minutes before you're about to dance.  You thought you were singing first. You’re auditioning with some of strongest performers at your school. The audition begins. You make some mistakes but you stay present in the moment and recover quickly.  You leave the audition feeling proud.
