Who are Hamilton and Lugar, and why are they important?

Lee Hamilton (R) was a Congressman, and Richard Lugar (D) was a Senator. They formed HLS to encourage bipartisan education and collaboration among both political parties, and to encourage global perspectives and immersion.

What happened with fraternities at IU being put on probation last semester? 

There were multiple allegations of hazing over a period of a few weeks, so it was decided that no social activities were to be hosted by any fraternity members for the remainder of the semester.

Peer Mentors can be found on the LLC floor, and also HLS in general. There are undergraduate and graduate Peer Mentors available. 

They help with special programming, Care Week, and counseling for academic and personal matters.

How would you describe the recent loss of federal funding for the FLAS (Foreign Language & Area Studies) scholarships by the US Dept of Education?

The State Department has frozen all Title VI funding for programs that "do not advance American interests or values." Despite this pause, we are hopeful and optimistic that these programs will resume in the future.

If someone asks about the difference between departments in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Hamilton Lugar School, what should you tell them?

The only languages technically taught by the CAS are Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and German. All foreign languages are taught in our building.

Shreve family offers $20,000 to eligible Indiana students to help cover tuition

Describe the recent degree changes that have taken place within HLS. 

Area studies majors have been consolidated and put under a new major: Regional & Comparative Studies. All subjects will still be taught, only now in the form of specific tracks.

The students who applied to these consolidated degrees have been admitted as Exploratory students.
