Who are Hamilton and Lugar, and why are they important?

HLS is named after Lee Hamilton and Richard Lugar, two Indiana leaders who worked across party lines on foreign policy and national security. The school honors their example by preparing students for careers in diplomacy, global affairs, public service, and cultural relations.

Due to a series of hazing investigations, all social activities from fraternities were paused for the remainder of the semester.

How would you describe the recent loss of federal funding for the FLAS (Foreign Language & Area Studies) scholarships by the US Dept of Education?

The State Department has frozen all Title VI funding for programs that "do not advance American interests or values." Despite this pause, we are hopeful and optimistic that these programs will resume in the future.

How would you describe the layout of our building to a prospective student? Why are some languages departments on the west side of the building?

Departments are separated by world regions or language groups. While some languages are technically listed under the College of Arts & Sciences, all foreign languages departments are housed in our building.
