With more than 400 student organizations, Cal Poly has something for everyone. No matter what you are passionate about, you’ll probably find at least one you’ll want to join.
Is the Fall quarter planned to be online?
No, as of now, we are planning to have in-person teaching in Fall 2020
Can you use drive-thrus in San Luis Obispo?
Nope! Since 1982, drive-thru fast-food restaurants have been banned in SLO.
Can you change you major at Cal Poly?
Yes. You must complete at least one quarter at Cal Poly before your eligibility can be determined.
Can I request a specific person to be my roommate?
Yes, there is an opportunity to indicate a "Roommate Preference" in the online housing application.
How much is a monthly fee to use the Recreation Center
$0. Enrolled students use it for free

Yes, as of Spring 2020, our international students are continuing their education online

Can you do major and minor from different colleges?
Yes! Major and Minor can be from different academic areas
Can I apply to stay in a specific housing complex?
No. Students are applying to Learning Communities. The location of each Learning Community is subject to change from year-to-year basis
How many hours can international students work on campus?
Up to 20 hours per week during the quarter and more than 20 hours per week during school breaks.
Is there a change in tuition and fees for the Spring 2020 quarter due to COVID-19?
No. Tuition and registration fees are defined by the California State University System as mandatory. These fees – such as ASI, University Union, and Health Services – will continue to be assessed at the established quarterly rate based on enrollment.

Will freshmen students select classes on their own for the Fall quarter?
No. Cal Poly will enroll you into a full schedule of classes for your first fall quarter and a partial schedule for the following winter and spring quarters.
Are dining plans mandatory for freshmen?
Yes, dining plans are required for freshmen living on campus. The Housing and Dining License can’t be modified or changed during any time.

Are study abroad programs still allowed?
No. Cal Poly has suspended all study abroad programs and students studying abroad are required to return to the U.S. as soon as possible.

Yes, University Housing and Campus Dining are open. Students who feel safer staying at the university, have no other housing options and/or those who may have limited access to technology/internet, may remain on campus.
