Name one of the cities that we mentioned in our Urban Sprawl Activity. Then talk about the problem they had, and the solution they found to that problem. 

Portland: Worried that farms and forests could be affected by urban sprawl (affect the natural beauty of environment). To combat this the grew up and not out, made a public transit system, and created mixed use zones (houses and businesses). 

Toronto: Saw the urban core as run down and traffic jams and air pollution were getting worse. To combat this they created 4 centers for growth in the cities and banned growth elsewhere. They then put in a public transit system and made mixed zones in places for small growth. 

Atlanta: The problem was traffic jams and rapid air pollution. To combat this, they created a public transit system as well as creating bike trails and walking paths to reduce the cars on the road.

The gap between people with access to computers and technology and those who don't. It affects people living in developing areas more than developed areas.

Who is Valdas Adamkus and what is his significance to Immigration?

Lithuanian Immigrant who fled from the Soviet Union. He then went to college in Illinois, studied Political Science, and helped clean up the Great Lakes. He then moved back to Lithuania and was elected President in 1998 and 2004. 

He is significant because he is an example of a Political Impact of Migration.
