 Fair-trade products are often sold in specialty shops, so they are not easily available to most consumers. Taxes are higher on processed goods, so fair-trade producers face additional costs to export their products. Large companies can take advantage of fair-trade certification. They receive the benefit of a fair-trade image but might only buy a very small amount of a fair-trade product to sell in another market.
