They must be humanely euthanized and their brain tissue sent for examination.

How do the symptoms of kennel cough differ from those of canine influenza?
Both diseases can cause a cough, but CIV can also cause wheezing, fever, runny nose, eye discharge, and loss of appetite. Both can progress to pneumonia.
How is Lepto transmitted?
Shed in the urine of infected animals, it is transmitted when the bacteria comes in contact with mucous membranes
