Career Jam! With over 60+ volunteers and over 200 students, Career Jam is our largest networking event. This year it is held on October 19th. Mark it in your calendars, you're expected to be present.

What is the Grad Expo? When is it?
The Grad Expo is a graduate school fair typically held in Murray-Aikins or Case. We actually aren't having it this year and we are moving to any every other year model.
A student wants to access the Career Advisor Network.
PeopleGrove. All students have an account, they need to login with their Skidmore email to activate it.
A student wants to make an appointment with a counselor to go over a resume. How do you proceed?
Let them know about our drop-in hours that are immediately available versus an appointment with a counselor that will take some time to schedule in advance. If they prefer meeting with a counselor, go ahead and schedule it.
How much can you receive from the Susan Hirsch Schwartz Award?
Up to $150 for travel assistance, interview attire, graduate school test and application fees, and other expenses. All expenses must be preapproved by the Career Development Center.
A student is looking for an internship in public policy. Who do you make an appointment with?

If someone has a question about an event that you are unfamiliar with, what is the first thing you do?
Look in Handshake! The event details are listed there. Be resourceful before you go asking someone else.
What is CareerShift? How do you access it?
CareerShift is a job search and networking tool. The link is available on our website and students need to create an account using their Skidmore emails. Alumni can use any email they want, but they need to input the group name: Skidmorealum

She is a pert-time temporary counselor that is filling in while Shannon is out on leave.

ALL OF THEM! If they're still unsure of what they want to do, they can meet with Megan.
What is ECCD? When is it happening?
Eastern College Career Day. It's a recruiting event for seniors that is held in NYC and Boston. Trick Question: It is no longer happening. ECCD disbanded. In it's place, we are creating a Skidmore Recruiting Day for seniors to be held in NYC sometime in early March.
What is Vault?
Vault is an industry deep dive resource that allows users to learn more about industries of interest to them. They provide guides that are helpful to learn more specific information.
How would you handle a student that "urgently" needs to speak to a counselor?
There are few "urgent" career matters. Offer some options that are available based on their certain situation. DO NOT always refer to a Career Coach because they may not be equipped to handle the situation. If a counselor is available, go back and talk to them about what's happening. They will either see the student or you can take a message from the student and let them know that a counselor will be in touch with them shortly.
What does SEF stand for?
Skidmore Experience Fund!
An alumni calls to make an appointment. In the past they have worked with Lauren and they request an appointment with her. It is clear that they are interested in social work as a career. How do you handle the situation.
First - let them know about the new career community model. Explain that Penny typically works with individuals within the field and would be a great resource moving forward. However, if they insist or are more comfortable making an appointment with Lauren, that is fine. Please let the counselor know of the situation.
What is "Meet the Nonprofit"?
This is a new initiative. Local nonprofits will be on campus every Wednesday at 2:30 in our conference room. These are nonprofits that are hosting internships either in the spring or summer. Interested students MUST submit an application to meet with the nonprofit because timeslots are limited.
What is MyPlan?
MyPlan is a resource that provides career assessments based on the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory. Megan hands out Key USBs to first year students with the code to access the Skidmore account on MyPlan. If they lose the key, we can provide the access code separately.
What do you do if there are 2 people in line waiting to check-in/make an appointment while the phone is ringing?
Ask Cori to help the students standing in line while you answer the phone call.
When does the application become available to apply for the SEF?
SEF applications can typically be submitted starting in February. Although there isn't an exact date yet, you can inform students that it will be available the beginning of the spring semester.
