Emergency Department Paramedic
Why would you be a good paramedic/What is most important for a paramedic to know?
I understand that the patient is a whole person and not just a symptom or injury. I will use my knowledge and stills to care for the patient to the best of mine and teams abilities.
What did you do in your clinicals?
I learned to use the Emergency Equipment, provided patient care and reported findings such as oxygen levels and blood pressure in their charts
What are your strengths
I work calmly and quickly in emergency situations. I know how important safety is so I always follow safety procedures and use PPE.
Tell me about a time you have worked on a team
During my clinicals a nurse was having a hard time giving a patient an iv. So, I helped hold the patient down so that the nurse could put in the iv. Other situations like this occurred during my clinicals

What is the difference between basic and advanced life support?
A Basic Life Support provider cannot use needles, devices that makes cuts in the skin, or administer medicines. Advanced Life Support provider can give injections & medications. They can also use airway equipment, cardiac life support, cardiac monitors and glucose testing devices.
Why did you choose STC?
When I toured the program and saw the up to date lab areas with an ER, patient rooms, and such I knew I would get a lot of hands-on training before my clinicals.
What is PPE?
Personal Protective Equipment – such as gloves, masks, and face shield
What would your role on this team be?
I would be stabilizing patients, assisting the doctor, and carrying out instructions from the doctor.
Why did you go into this field?
I wanted to go into this field because a lot of my family members are nurses and I want to help sick people just like them. Ever since I was little, I always loved to take care of people when they were sick
What do you mean by “works autonomously as part of a team?”
I do what I need to do along side the team. I am capable of doing my part while everyone else contributes their part at the same time.
What do you do at your current job?
I transport discharged patients to their vehicles.
What are your weaknesses?
I am Newley certified so I do not have the additional experiences. I am wiling to learn and ask questions to help further my knowledge.
How well do you handle stress or stressful situation?
I rely on my training which tells me what I need to do. When the patient is stable if I need to I will take a moment to take a few deep breaths, mediate for a second, then get back to work. In my personal time I exercise and mediate to help keep the stress of this type of job to a minimum and enjoy my hobbies.
Why not become a nurse?
I knew I wanted to work in an emergency department and being a paramedic lets me focus on emergency treatment. A nurse received general training does not focus on emergencies.
How are you prepared for this job?
I received my EMT certification through Suncoast Technical College. We trained in a specially designed lab and also completed clinicals in the emergency department here at Sarasota Memorial. To stay current with hospital policies I current work here in the departure lounge.
What have you learned from this job?/ How has this job helped you to grow?
I now know the different areas of the hospital, I’ve taken the required hospital trainings, and I am more comfortable talking with patients and their families.
What are your skills?
I know how to evaluate and treat patients for a variety of problems. I trained on emergency equipment. I always use my PPE. I know how to prepare reports and charts on patients.
What are your hobbies? What do you do for fun?
Some of my hobbies include baking, painting, and gardening. These hobbies help calm me down with a stressful job.
Tell me about yourself.
I am a licensed paramedic and I currently work here in the departure lounge. I have good communication skills and work well with in a team. I will bring my positive attitude to this job.
What are clinicals?
Practice at the hospital or doctor office with supervision before being certified.
Why do you want to work here?
I had a great experience working here during my clinicals here. Since I already work here, I know this hospital is a great place to work.
Five years from now where do you see yourself?
I see myself working in this hospital working as an Emergency Department Paramedic as a solid member of the team.

My previous boss would say that I am a hard worker, determined, and caring.
