Tippecanoe County Juvenile Probation calls for a 14-year-old female, in need for an ESC placement. Probation notes that there are some concerns with human trafficking. The youth has been placed with us on an ESC placement before and did not elope during her first placement. What things do you consider before staffing out with on-call?
This youth could be placed at Cary Home-ESC. You want to be sure to inform on call of the concerns with human trafficking.

Movie Night is the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Friday on the month.

A person calls Cary Home and requests to speak to a resident, you check the phone list and don't see their names on the residents list, what do you do?
You inform the person that you cannot confirm or deny the youth's placement and if they have reason to believe that youth is placed here, they need to contact the placing agency

Marion County Juvenile Probation calls for a potential ESC placement for a 16-year-old male that has recently self-harmed, has a history of elopement, and would require 1:1 staffing. Should you accept placement of this youth, why or why not?
Cary Home does not support placement of a youth that requires 1:1 staffing. Additionally, with concerns of active self-harming behaviors, we would not be an appropriate placement for this youth.
You're at snack and a resident begins choking, what do you do?
Call a Code Blue-CALL 911
Look for signs and symptoms of choking (hands around their throat, not speaking, not coughing)
Encourage them to cough
Give 5 back blows (in between their shoulder blades)
If that does not work you should give them 5 abdominal thrusts-each time checking with the resident for signs of breathing or item dislodged
