Which Hemisphere of the Frontal lobe grants me the perception and the motor planning I need in order for my body to carry out the cooking tasks?
The Right Hemisphere
Function of the Auditory Association Area?
- processes, and recognizes auditory stimuli
Occipital lobe Function?
Occipital lobe receives and processes visual stimuli.
The parietal lobe grants me attention/Cognition (i.e. knowledge, thinking, reasoning, and judgment) and the detection of pressure. What is an example of when would this be used?
Cracking an egg.
If cooking RELAXES me what part of the autonomic Nervous system is working when I cook?
Autonomic
Parasympathetic: When I cook I begin to feel at peace and relaxed. This is a result of the Parasympathetic nervous system being activated.
What role does the Primary Motor cortex play in cooking?
It Controls voluntary movement. I'm using volunteer movement when I move my arms and legs while I cook.
What is the function of the auditory sensory Area?
It receives Auditory stimuli.
Primary Visual cortex Function?
Primary visual cortex: Sense of vision; Interacts with lobes for integration of visual information
True or false? I also use my parietal lobe to make calculations and use my math abilities to know how much of an ingredient I am going to use.
True!
PNS: What spinal/ cranial nerves are involved in cooking? (Somatic Nervous System)
Somatic
Cranial Nerves:
Accessory - Used for shoulder & head movement while I cook.
Oculomotor- Used for eye movement.
Optic- Used for vision activity.
Trochlear- Used for vertical eye movement.
Abducens- Used for lateral eye movement.
Auditory- Used for hearing and balance.
These all play a big role in cooking.
Spinal Nerves:
All 31 Pairs of spinal nerves are involved in cooking.
True or False: Planning/organization, attention/ memory, & calculations for cooking take place in the frontal lobe? If True, Explain when they would be used while cooking.
True-
Planning/organization:
I use planning when figuring out what I need for a recipe and organization when I prepare the kitchen for cooking.
Attention/ Memory:
I must pay attention to what I am doing when I cook. I also use my short-term memory so that I remember the steps I have already done.
Calculations:
I use calculations to know how much to use each ingredient.
When would the Temporal Lobe's function come in handy while cooking?
- Hear & recognize that my timer has gone off when I cook.
RANDOM QUESTION!!! What is the right & left hemisphere's role in cooking?
Right Hemisphere:
The right hemisphere allows me perception. When I cook I am using visual and spatial, auditory, & motor planning perception. I use Visual & spatial perception to know where I am in the kitchen compared to my appliances. I also use my auditory perception to listen for the timer to go off, to know it’s time to get the food out of the oven. Lastly, My brain does motor planning to grant me the ability of going into the kitchen and carrying out all the steps of cooking without me having to cognitively think about what each part of my body needs to do to complete this task.
The right hemisphere is also in charge of the movements I do with the left side of my body while I cook. It is also where my creativity comes from.
Left Hemisphere
The left hemisphere is in charge of sequencing. I use sequencing when I cook to know the order of the steps I am doing.
Controls the movements of my right side as I cook.
Left prefrontal area: Feelings of wellbeing & positive emotions are created here. When I cook I feel like I am in a constant state of wellbeing. I’m always in a better mood after and/or while I cook.
RANDOM Q! What is Cassey's favorite color?
Green!
What is the cerebellum's role in cooking?
Cerebellum
The cerebellum is responsible for smooth muscle coordination, force, direction, and degree of movement, regulation of muscle tone, and balance regulation. I use all of this when I cook.
when would I use Fine motor movements during cooking?
I would use it when I cut food, crack eggs, etc.

What parts of the brainstem are involved in cooking?
Medulla Oblongata: Respiratory and Cardiovascular Center
Because I am relaxed my heart rate/ Blood pressure will go down.
Midbrain: Vision and Auditory reflexes
Reticular Formation: Controls attention and motor functions.
Does Intelligence & cognition take place in the frontal Lobe? If so, what role does it have?
It does! When I cook, I have to be fully cognizant of what I am doing in order to carry out cooking safely and successfully. I also use my prior knowledge every time I cook so I don’t continually make the same mistakes
Random Question!!!! What Is cassey's Zodiac Sign?
Capricorn!
What is its role in cooking?
I use the occipital lobe (both the visual association area & the visual sensory area) during cooking to judge if food is done, to see where I’m putting my ingredients, & to know where I am at compared to my appliances such as how close my hand is to a burning hot stove. Vision plays a critical role in my cooking abilities.
Random Question: O-H?!
I-O!
What parts of the limbic system are involved in cooking & how?
Hippocampus:
Short term memory converts to long term memory: I use my STM to know the steps that I have already done. I have recipes that I have done so many times that they are now engraved in my long-term memory.
Hypothalamus:
The hypothalamus is used to control the autonomic nervous system. My parasympathetic nervous system is activated when I cook.
Thalamus:
All Sensory info (minus olfactory) passes through here. This is also where sensory motor integration takes place. The thalamus is incorporated into being a good cook because all of this helps to regulate my responses of certain stimuli when I cook.
