*This questions regards the topic of unborn life - if you feel uncomfortable with this question please say so now*
In the state of Georgia, there is currently a woman who is being kept alive by life support, and has been for the past 90 days. The reason for this is that this woman is pregnant with a baby that is still alive and developing. This process has cost the family of the deceased and unborn millions of dollars in hospital expenses, but they will be jailed if they refuse continues treatment until the 32 week mark of pregnancy. Is this ethical from a Catholic lens?
*This is the most extreme & most contemporary issue of Christian ethics on the planet. A similar instance has never received global coverage, and thus has never been studied. Although there have been 30 cases under similar terms, this is the first time life-support has been administered for more than 107 days (~215 days). This mother was put on life support at 9 weeks.*
Speaking plainly, this is not ethical from any lens, but especially not from a Catholic perspective. This is an instance of playing God - keeping someone "alive" even after their natural life has ceased. Additionally, Georgian lawmakers have upheld the pervasive language that anyone opposed to the current practice is a supporter of abortion. What is being described is not an abortion, it is a heart-wrenching, but natural and necessary death in the Natural Law.
