Response prevention

Explain the stress response

The parasympathetic nervous system helps us "rest and digest" and maintains the stability of our physiology. When the sympathetic nervous system kicks in the "stress response" is initiated causing physiological changes to help us deal with the stressor by allowing our bodies to quickly deal with the threat. This includes increased heart rate, increase respiration, and blood diverting to muscles.

Why does working on changing behaviors help with OCD?

The CBT triangle! Your behaviors, thoughts, and feelings, all influence each other. If you modify your behavior it will also modify your thoughts and feelings.

500

How many exposure rooms are there on the child side?

16

500

True or False:

"I am a failure if my child does not get better".

FALSE:

In CBT, we talk about how we do not have control of our thoughts or feelings, but our behaviors. We also do not have control over other’s behaviors, therefore, you cannot control whether your child resists a ritual, has a temper tantrum, or disobeys you. You can only control YOUR response to their behaviors and what you can do differently.
