Hose Loads
Hose Finishes
Preconnected Attack Lines
100
In this roll , both couplings are on the outside of the roll and the male is protected by a portion of the hose. It used where hose is likely to be deployed directly from a roll.
What is donut roll?
100
Main hose carrying area of a pumper.
What is hose bed?
100
The easiest load to place on the hose bed. Its suitable for any size hose.
What is a flat load?
100
Forward finishes are designed to facilitate making this as easy as possible.
What is making a hydrant connection?
100
A rubber covered hose line carried on a reel.
What is a booster line?
200
This roll allows both the male and female coupling to be available for connection when deployed.
What is the twin donut roll?
200
This load permis the deployment of a single long supply line or two shorter supply lines.
What is split hose load?
200
This load has the hose laying on its edge in folds that lie adjacent to each other. The first coupling in the bed can be on either side of a single bed or in the center for a split load. It gets its name from its musical instrument appearance.
What is an accordian load?
200
This finish consists of the last length or two of hose flaked loosely back and forth across the top of the hose load.
What is a straight finish?
200
This load begins with hose folded in three layers and loaded into the bed in an S shaped fashion. Preferred for 2 and 2 1/2" hose lines.
What is triple layer load?
300
Simplest of all hose rolls.
What is straight roll?
300
An extra fold place along the lenght of a section of hose as it is loaded so that its couplings rest in proper positions.
What is a Dutchman?
300
A disadvantage of this load is that it sometimes comes out in wavy, snake like lay as the hose is pulled from side to side in the hose bed.
What is a horseshoe load?
300
This load consists of folding the last three lenghts of hose accordian style into a compact bundle on top of the rest of the load. Two pull loops on the front of the load make it easy to pull from the truck.
What is skid load finish?
300
Designed to be pulled and advanced by one man. Primary advantage is that it is carried on the shoulder and pays off the shoulder as the firefighter advances.
What is the minuteman load?
400
This roll has a built in carrying strap. Both couplings are available for quick connection.
What is self locking twin donut roll?
400
LDH is load flat and in this manner.
What is couplings forward?
400
This is the desired load for LDH.
What is a flat load?
400
This finish places the U shape of the horseshoe facing forward on the apparatus. It is made of one or two lengths of hose attached to a gated wye and ready for rapid deployment of an attack line.
What is a reverse horseshoe finish?
400
This is a simple load that usually lies in transverse (cross) beds. Usually provided with two loops to pull the load from the bed.
What is a preconnected flat load?
500
This roll is used when the hose is going to be loaded on the apparatus for a forward (straight) lay.
What is straight roll?
500
A general rule for loading hose is that the hose should be loose enough to allow this to be easily inserted between the folds.
What is a gloved hand?
500
Unlike the horseshoe load, this load is easy to transition to a shoulder carry if necessary.
What is a accordian load?
500
These are loaded to the basic hose load to increase versatility or the load. They normally provide enough loose hose to make the hydrant connection.
What is a hose load finish?
500
These are the primary attack lines used by most fire departments. They allow for quick hits on a fire and range from 50 to 250 feet in length.
What is preconnected hoseline (attack line).
