Cell Reproduction in Prokaryotes
Notes from Miss. Bradley's Class
100
What theory did John Needham Come up with?
The "Life Force"
100
What order makes up interphase.
G1, G0, S Phase, and G2
100
List the order of all 5 steps of mitosis.
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, and Cytokineses.
100
What is the process in which the prokaryotes go through?
Binary Fission.
100
Whay are centrioles not truly needed?
Because plant cells dont use them so they are not really necessary.
200
What man proved Needham's theory wrong and created the first "S" shaped flask?
Louis Pasteur
200
G1 does what in interphase?
Grows in size
200
What phase has the nuclear envelope and nucleolus start to disappear, and the chromatin start to coil?
Prophase
200
How many daughter cells are made by cell reproduction in prokaryotes?
Two.
200
What are three different ways to regulate the cell cycle?
Cell to cell contact, checkpoints, and cyclins.
300
What man experimented with four flasks, and did not agree with Needham's findings?
Lazzar Spallanzani.
300
What is the resting phase before the "S" phase?
G0
300
What happens during Anaphase?
Chromosomes split and the sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles.
300
True or false? Prokaryotes have the same chromosome shape as eukaryotes.
False
300
Why do we need to regulate the cell's action?
Because the cell can grow abnormalties, and it can create cancer.
400
Who experimented to see if maggots came from decaying meat?
Francesco Redi
400
This phase doubles all organelles in the cell.
What is Synthesis (S) Phase
400
What phase has the centrioles start to uncoil, and the nuclear envelope/nucleolus start to reappear?
Telophase.
400
Explain how cell reproduction in prokaryotes work.
A single chromosome attaches to the cell membrane, and a duplicate copy is made that also attaches to the membrane. While this is happening, the cell membrane and cell wall grows between the two copies and seperates forming two cells.
400
What are the two different ways cyclins regulate the cell cycle?
DNA replication cyclin, and Mitosis cyclin.
500
What scientist took the longest time for an experiment 1745-1748.
John Needham
500
What does G2 do interphase?
Continues to grow in size.
500
What are two key differences between plant and animal cells while going through cytokinesis and mitosis?
Plants have no centrioles, and creat a cell plate. Animals have centrioles, and pinches the cell membrane.
500
Ran out of questions on this topic sooo... What is a homologue?
In diploid cells the two members of each pairof chromosomes that charry DNA with information for corresponding traits.
500
Where are the three checkpoints located, and how are they monitered?
One is G0, the next is after G2, and one during Metaphase. They are monitered by proteins.
