How does cancer Begin?
It begins when a mutation occurs and and damages the DNA in a chromosome.
What is an Autotroph?
What is a Heterotroph?
1. An organism that makes its own food.
2. An organism that cant make its own food.
What is Respiration?
It is the process by which cells break down simple food molecules to release the energy they contain.
What is the first and second stage of the cell cycle?
Interphase then Mitosis.
What does a DNA strand look like?
A Double Helix
What is a mutation?
It is a change in a gene or chromosome.
What are the 2 stages of photosynthesis?
They are Capturing the Sun's energy and then using it to make food (sugars).
What are the two types of respiration?
Anaerobic and Anaerobic
What happens in the Prophase?
The Chromatin in the nucleus condenses to form chromosomes. The pairs to centrioles move to opposite sides of the nucleolus. Spindle fibers form a bridge between the ends of the cell. The nuclear envelope breaks down.
What bond the bases together?
A hydrogen base.
How does Cancer Spread?
It spreads when a tumor forms and some of the cancerous cells break off and go into the blood stream, and then spreads thought the body.
What is a stomata?
It is the small openings under the leaves of the plant through which Carbon Dioxide enters the plant.
What are the two types of fermentation, and what is fermentation?
Fermentation provides energy for the cells without using oxygen.
The two types of fermentation are Alcoholic and Lactic Acid.
What is the Metaphase?
In this phase the chromosomes line up across the center of the cell. Each chromosome attaches to a spindle fiber at its centromere.
What are the nitrogen bases and what do they pair with?
Adenine+Thymine, Cytosine+Guanine
What are the ways you can treat cancer?
You can treat it by surgery, radiation and a drug called chemotherapy.
What is photosynthesis?
It is the process of which a cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to make food (sugars).
What is the chemical equation for Respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -----> 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy
What is the Anaphase?
The centromers split. The two chromatid becomes a new chromosome. The new chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cells. The cell stretches out as the opposite ends are push apart.
What is a telomere?
A telomere is that is found at the end of a chromosome and it keeps the chromosome from unwinding. Over the years I get shorter and shorter and once it is gone the chromosome on lines and the cell dies. If you eat unhealthy and do things that aren't good for you it'll take even faster for your telomere to shorten.
1. What is cancer?
2.How can you prevent cancer?
1. It is a disease in which cells grow and divided uncontrollably damaging parts of the body around them.
2. By eating healthy (fruits veggies no unhealthy fats ect.)
What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis and what do they stand for?
6 CO2+ 6H2O -----> C6H12O6+6O2
Carbon Dioxide + Water -----> A Sugar Oxygen
What is the difference between cellular respiration and breathing?
The difference is breathing lets air to move into your lungs and and cellular respiration takes place inside your cells.
What is the Telophase and Cytokinesis
The telophase is when the chromosomes begin to stretch out and lose their rod like appearance. A new nuclear envelope forms around each region of chromosomes.
Cytokinesis is when the cell membrane pinches in around the middle of the cell. The cell splits in two. Each daughter cell ends up with an identical set of chromosomes and about half the organelles.
Who discoverer the structure of DNA and what does it look like.
James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA. Rosalind Franklin also helps them by allowing them to use her x-ray although she never received credit for helping. The structure of DNA is like a double helix with wrongs that are the nitrogen bases. The sides are made of a phosphate and nitrogen base and deoxy ribose.
