Former member of United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing, or Shakers; was called by revelation to accompany Sidney Rigdon and Parley P. Pratt to preach the gospel to a group of Shakers in Ohio.
Who is Leman Copley?
The Lord explained that they “desire[d] to know the truth in part, but not all” (D&C 49:2). Although this group sought to follow God, they eventually rejected the message of the Restoration as taught by the missionaries who were called to declare the word of the Lord to them.
Who are the Shakers?
It is one of the first principles of the gospel and is essential to our temporal and eternal happiness. It is much more than just acknowledging wrongdoings. It is a change of mind and heart that gives us a fresh view about God, about ourselves, and about the world. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness. It is motivated by love for God and the sincere desire to obey His commandments.

The Lord warned the Saints that there are false spirits on the earth who, along with this entity, seek to deceive and overthrow God’s children (D&C 50:2-3).
Who is Satan?
This represents the evil influences of the adversary and symbolizes all that does not edify (see D&C 50:23–24). The Book of Mormon reminds readers that those who “yield unto the devil and choose works of this rather than light” are condemned to “go down to hell” (2 Nephi 26:10). When people disobey the commandments of God, their sins block the light that comes from the Spirit of the Lord and they find themselves “walking in this at noon-day” (D&C 95:6).

In 1830, he and other missionaries baptized some 130 individuals in Kirtland, Ohio, while on a mission to the Lamanites (Native Americans); served with Leman Copley and Sidney Rigdon on mission to a group of Shakers in Ohio.
Who is Parley P. Pratt?
The Prophet Joseph Smith (1805–1844) warned about those who claim to know the time of this event. Go and read the Scriptures, and you cannot find anything that specifies the exact hour He would come; and all that say so are false teachers.

This must be done by immersion in water by one having authority and is the first ordinance of salvation and exaltation in the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is also necessary for an individual to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to receive eternal salvation.
The Lord warned the Saints in Kirtland about these individuals among Church members, and Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained that we must beware of false prophets and false teachers (D&C 50:6).

He was a former reformed Baptist preacher before joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Geauga County, Ohio, in November 1830. He then became a scribe to Joseph Smith and was appointed to travel with him to Missouri in 1831; served with Leman Copley and Parley P. Pratt on mission to a group of Shakers in Ohio.
Who is Sidney Rigdon?
This group believed that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ had already occurred and that He had returned in the form of a woman named Ann Lee. This belief is an example of the false teachings that the Savior prophesied would be prevalent in the last days (D&C 49:7).

This is bestowed by the priesthood ordinance of confirmation after a person has been baptized by immersion in water. The ordinance is administered by the laying on of hands by one who holds the Melchizedek Priesthood.

Those who hear the gospel of Jesus Christ preached by this have the opportunity to feel the Comforter, to be edified, and to receive the truth. When a person teaches truth by the Spirit and the recipient is open to receive it by the Spirit, “both are edified and rejoice together” (D&C 50:19-22).

The Lord said that the elders of the Church were like these in their knowledge of the gospel, but He promised that if they received Him, they would “grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth” (D&C 50:40) and would someday become one with the Father and the Son (see D&C 50:43).
