What is ton/o?

What is tendinitis?
The loss of sensation and voluntary muscle movements in a muscle through disease or injury to its nerve supply. Temporary or permanent
What is paralysis?
Is an injury to the muscle or tendon that has been stretched or torn. Usually associated with overuse injuries.
What is a strain?
Increasing the angle between two bones or the straightening out of a limb.
What is extension?
The medical term for fibrous tissue
What is fibr/o?
Inflammation of the fascia
What is fasciitis?
Slight paralysis or weakness affecting one side of the body, associated with stroke or brain damage
What is hemiparesis?
Is an injury to a joint which usually occurs when a ligament is torn.

Movement of a limb away from the midline of the body.
What is abduction?
The medical term for movement
What is kinesi/o, kines/o?
The distortion of impairment of voluntary movement such as a tic or spasm
What is dyskinesia?
Total paralysis affecting only one side of the body. Damage to one side of the brain affects the opposite side of the body.
What is hemiplegia?
Is determined by the level of the vertebra closest to the injury. The higher on the spinal cord the injury occurs, the greater the area of the body that may be affected.
What are spinal cord injuries?
The movement that bends the foot downward at the ankle.
What is plantar flexion?
The term for paralysis or stoke
What is -plegia?
Very similar to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy but is less severe
What is Becker Muscular Dystrophy?
Is the paralysis of both legs and the lower part of the body. Associated mostly with brain injuries.
What us paraplegia?
There is still some function below the level of injury.
What is an incomplete spinal cord injury?
The acting of rotating the arm or leg so that the palm of the hand or sole of the foot is turned forward or upward.
What is supination?
The medical term for hernia, or swelling
What is -cele?
The most common form of muscular dystrophy of in children. Primarily affects boys with the onset between 3-5 years old
What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?
Is the paralysis of all four extremities (upper and lower extremities). Associated mostly with brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.
What is quadriplegia?
Complete loss of sensation and muscle control below the level of the injury. Does not mean that there is no hope of any improvement.
What is a complete spinal cord injury?
The act of rotating the arm or leg so that the palm of the hand or sole of the foot is turned downward or backward.
