What is Criminal Law?
Threatening and harmful or offensive touching of a patient by a medical professional.
What is Assault and Battery?
The action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation.
What is Slander?
The activities that an individual health care practitioner is permitted to perform within a specific profession
What is Scope of practice?
The rejection by the Alternative Payment Provider Host due to the Customer making a Payment Request having insufficient funds in the Customer Account to meet the value of the Payment Request.
What is Denied payment?
Cases of wrongdoing or negligence of a practitioner toward a patient, with the result of harm to the patient.
What is Civil Law?
Sharing a patient's medical records or info with someone who is not authorized to see them.
What is Invasion of privacy?
A defamatory statement in writing or other visible forms.
What is Libel?
A system of moral principles that apply values and judgments to the practise of medicine.
What is ethics?
End of your health insurance benefits and you lose access to health services covered by that insurance.
What is Termination of coverage?
When a medical professional acts in a negligent manner and injures someone in their care.
What are Torts?
An intentional act to restrict a patient's movement unlawfully
What is False imprisonment?
An agreement between an admitted patient whose treatment and/or care is provided under an arrangement between a health service purchaser of care and a provider of an admitted service.
What is a contract?
A type of advance directive that gives a person the authority to make medical decisions for another person if that person is not able to make their own decisions.
What is Power of attorney?
A medical condition that you have before starting a new health care plan.
What is a Pre-existing condition?
Improper, illegal, or negligent medical activity or treatment.
What is Malpractice?
The actions or inactions of an individual's caregiver inflicting physical, sexual, or emotional harm on the individual
What is Abuse?
A doctor failed to react or act accordingly to an agreement between them and the patient and the outcome resulted in additional harm to the patient.
What is a Breach of Contract?
A legal document that tells doctors how you want to be treated if you cannot make your own decisions about emergency treatment.
What is a Living will?
Amended the Public Health Service and Social Security Acts to create the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.
What is the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA)?
Failure to take proper care in taking care of a patient.
What is Negligence?
A false statement of fact, published to a third party.
What is Defamation?
A document with important information about a medical procedure or treatment including the risks and benefits that the patient signs to give consent.
What is a Consent form?
When a healthcare insurance payer refuses to reimburse a provider for services rendered to a patient according to their benefits.
