T/F:The light bulb in a circuit acts as a resistor.
What is true
200
T/F: An atom that loses protons, becomes positively charged.
What is false:electrons (not protons)
200
T/F: An electromagnet and a regular magnet are not the same thing.
What is true.
200
T/F: Basically, a parallel circuit just means that the resistors are across from one another.
What is false: a parallel circuit has more than one pathway for electrical energy to move through.
200
T/F: A closed switch means that electricity cannot pass through the circuit.
What is false: open (not closed) will not allow electricity to pass through the circuit.

Copper is an excellent __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __.
What is conductor.
400
What is a conductor? Give an example of a conductor.
What is a material that allows electricity to pass through it easily. Anything made of metal, copper, etc. A metal spoon, a barbed wire fence, a copper necklace, etc.
400
Compare how an electromagnet and a regular magnet are similar.
What is They both have north and south poles and are stronger at the poles than the middle. Also, both types of magnets attract magnetic objects.
400
What different kinds of energy can resistors give off? (Name at least 2.)
What is: thermal(heat), light, sound, and mechanical energy
400
What is an insulator? Give an example of an insulator.
What is an insulator is a material that does not allow electricity to pass through it easily, if at all. (Examples will vary.) Materials made of plastic, wood, etc. A wooden pizza slate, a plastic insulator clip on an electrically charged fence.
400
Contrast how an electromagnet and a regular magnet are different.
What is Unlike a regular magnet, an electromagnet can be turned on and off and made stronger.
500
What does the term circuit mean?
What is a circle or a loop.
500
Compare how a series and a parallel circuit are similar.
What is They both allow electricity through them.

Grab a white board and marker. Sketch the following symbols for a circuit: wire, battery, resistor, wall outlet, and open and closed switch.
What is ... wire= _____...battery= -l l--- ...resistor= WWW ...wall outlet= O with backwards S in it ...open switch= __/ __ ... closed switch = .__.__.___. (If this is too confusing, show me your whiteboard and we'll chat.)
500
Contrast how a series circuit and a parallel circuit are different.
What is A series circuit is a circuit with more than one resistor on a SINGLE wire. A parallel circuit is a circuit with MORE THAN ONE pathway.
500
What is one benefit of using a parallel circuit? What is one benefit of using a series circuit?
What is answers may vary. I think, one benefit of using a parallel circuit would be that if a light bulb doesn't work in my house, the others won't go out because there is an alternative pathway for the electrical current to pass to light up the rest of the working bulbs. One benefit of using a series circuit is to find out where the bad bulb is in a string of christmas lights (some, not all christmas lights are designed in series). This is a benefit because I would find where the lights are not lit up and then find the one next to a lit up bulb and replace it to see if that's the one throwing off the rest of the circuit.
