What is Urethra?
The urethra is the tube that carries the urine from the bladder to the outside.
What is Cortex?
The cortex is the outer section of the kidney. It contains most of the nephrons, which aid in the production of urine.
What is Medulla?
The medulla is the inner section of the kidney. It contains most of the collecting tubules, which carry the urine from the nephrons through the kidney.
What is Void?
to empty bodily waste (urine/feces)
What is urinary meatus?
The urethra is the tube that carries the urine from the bladder to the outside. The external opening is called the urinary meatus.
What is excretory system?
The urinary system, also known as the excretory system, is responsible for removing certain wastes and excess water from the body and for maintaining the body's acid-base or pH balance.
What is Nephrons?
Nephrons (Figure 7-71) are microscopic filtering units located in the kidneys. There are more than one million nephrons per kidney.
What is Ureters?
The ureters are two muscular tubes approximately 10-12 inches in length. One extends from the renal pelvis of each kidney to the bladder.
What is urinary system?
The urinary system, also known as the excretory system, is responsible for removing certain wastes and excess water from the body and for maintaining the body's acid-base or pH balance.
What is Hilum?
Each kidney has a hilum, a notched or indented area through which the ureter, nerves, blood vessels, and lymph vessels enter and leave the kidney.
What is Glomerulus?
a tiny, ball-shaped network of capillaries within the kidney's nephron, acting as the crucial first step in blood filtration to form urine by letting small molecules pass into Bowman's capsule while holding back large substances like proteins and blood cells.
What is Bladder?
The bladder is a hollow, muscular sac that lies behind the symphysis pubis and at the midline of the pelvic cavity
What is Homeostasis?
the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment, or dynamic equilibrium, despite external changes.
What is Urine?
a liquid waste produced by the kidneys, filtered from the blood, and excreted from the body.
What is Bowman's capsule?
The Bowman's capsule is a C-shaped structure that surrounds the glomerulus and is the start of the convoluted tubule.
What is Kidneys?
The kidneys (Figure 7-70) are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the vertebral column, behind the upper part of the abdominal cavity, and separated from this cavity by the peritoneum
What is renal pelvis?
a funnel-shaped structure in the center of the kidney where urine collects before being funneled into the ureter.
