What is Adrenal glands?
Often called the suprarenal glands because one is located above each kidney and each gland has two parts, the outer portion and the inner portion.
What is Endocrine glands?
Secrete substances directly into the bloodstream.
What is Endocrine system?
Consists of a group of these ductless endocrine glands that secrete substances directly into the bloodstream.
What is Exocrine glands?
Secrete substances into ducts that lead to targeted tissues and include the sudoriferous glands and salivary glands.
What is Hormones?
Chemical substances produced and secreted by the endocrine glands, called “chemical messagers.”
What is Ovaries?
The gonads of the female.
What is Pancreas?
A fish-shaped organ located behind the stomach.
What is Parathyroid glands?
Four, small glands located behind and attached to the thyroid gland. Their hormone, parathormone, regulates the amount of calcium in the blood.
What is Pineal body?
A small structure attached to the roof of the third ventricle in the brain.
What is Pituitary gland?
Called the “master gland” of the body because it produces many hormones that affect other glands.
What is Placenta?
Temporary endocrine gland produced during pregnancy.
What is Testes?
The gonads of the male.
What is Thymus?
A mass of tissue located in the upper part of the chest and under the sternum.
What is Thyroid gland?
Synthesizes hormones that regulate the body’s metabolism and control the level of calcium in the blood.
