What's Ventricles?
Four hollow spaces in the brain that connect with each other and the subarachnoid space
What's Thalamus?
acts as a relay center, directs sensory impulses to the cerebrum, and allows conscious recognition of pain and temperature.
What's Somatic nervous system?
The division of the peripheral nervous system that carries messages between the CNS and the body.
What's Peripheral nervous system?
Consists of the nerves and has two divisions: the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.
What's Neuron?
basic structural unit of the nervous system, or nerve cell,
What's Sympathetic?
Division of the autonomic nervous system that prepares the body to act in times of emergency
What's spinal cord?
esponsible for many reflex actions and for carrying sensory and motor messages.
What's Pons?
responsible for conducting messages, certain reflex actions (chewing, tasting), and assisting with respiration.
What's parasympathetic?
counteracts the sympathetic system by slowing heart rate, decreasing respiration, lowering blood pressure, and increasing activity in the digestive tract.
What's Nervous system?
highly organized system that coordinates all the activities of the body and enables it to respond and adapt to changes.
What's Nerves?
combination of many nerve fibers located outside the brain and spinal cord.
What's Midbrain?
responsible for conducting impulses between brain parts and for certain eye and auditory reflexes.
What's Meninges?
The three membranes that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord.
What's Medulla oblongata?
connects with the spinal cord and is responsible for regulating heartbeat, respiration, swallowing, coughing, and blood pressure.
What's Hypothalamus?
regulates and controls the autonomic nervous system, temperature, appetite, water balance, sleep, and blood vessel constriction and dilation, and is involved in emotions.
What's Diencephalon?
contains the thalamus and hypothalamus.
What's Cerebrum?
The largest and highest section of the brain
What's Cerebrospinal fluid?
a shock absorber and carrying nutrients and wastes.
What's Cerebellum?
responsible for muscle coordination, balance, posture, and muscle tone.
What's Central nervous system?
Consists of the brain and spinal cord.
What's brain?
A mass of nerve tissue well protected by membranes and the cranium, or skull.
Whats? Autonomic nervous system?
contains the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which work together to control involuntary body functions.
