After the Alamo they were enraged by the murder of their fellow Texans. They had to retreat and run away but then surprised the Mexican forces and defeated them. They forced Santa Anna to sign the Treaties of Velasco which ended the war and forced Mexico to pull back their troops, finally declaring Texas independent
