abdominal cavity
The part of the ventral cavity that contains the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and other organs.

Refers to body parts toward the front of the body.

Refers to a condition or structure that affects both sides of the body.

The space within the skull that contains the brain.
Deep-
Refers to structures located away from or below the surface of the body.
Distal-
Refers to body parts farther away from the point of reference or main trunk of the body.
Dorsal-
Refers to body parts on the back of the body.
frontal (coronal) plane-
The body plane that divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) sections.
Inferior-
Refers to body parts below other parts.
Lateral-
Refers to body parts away from the midline of the body.
Medial-
Refers to body parts close to the midline of the body.
midsagittal plane-
The plane that divides the body into equal right and left halves
nasal cavity-
The space located within the nose and nasal structures.
orbital cavity-
The space that contains the eyes.
pelvic cavity-
The lower portion of the abdominal cavity that contains the urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and the last part of the large intestine.
Posterior-
Refers to body parts toward the back of the body.
Proximal
Refers to body parts close to the point of reference or main trunk of the body.
sagittal plane-
A body plane that divides the body into right and left sides.
spinal cavity-
The space within the vertebral column that contains the spinal cord.
