What is a griot?

Who is Youssou N'Dour and where is he from?


Youssou N'Dour is foremost among modern West African music stars. He was born in a poor section of the Median in Dakar, Senegal. Today, he is known as a principal interpreter of "fusion pop" music, a combination of traditional African, and Western pop, rock, and soul music. Because of his fame, N'Dour had many tours. When at home in Dakar he and his group, Super étoile, performed every week at his nightclub, La Thiosanne.
