Objects described by a set of data
What are individuals?
Displays each category of the variable and the # of individuals that fall within each category
What are frequency tables
Average (add values and divide by number of observations)
What is the mean?
Any attribute of an individual
Displays each category of the variable and the % of individuals that fall within each category
Midpoint of distribution (measure of center)
What is the median?
Places an individual into a particular group or category. These CAN be numerical if it does not make sense to average the values
What are categorical variables?
Displays frequencies for combinations of two categorical variables
What are two-way tables?
Most common value or peak of the data
What is mode?
Takes numerical values for which it makes sense to average
What are quantitative variables?
A number line with a dot representing each data point above its corresponding value
What is a dot plot?
Distance between the 1st and 3rd quartiles
What is the IQR?
Tells us what values the variable takes and how often it takes these variables
What is distribution of a variable?
A graph of the 5-number summary, with outliers plotted individually.
What is a box plot?
Consists of the smallest observation, Q1, the median, Q3, and the largest observation, written in order from smallest to largest
