Cellular respiration is an interaction between what two systems?
biosphere (animal), atmosphere (Water vapor)
100
Where is most of the water on Earth held?
The world ocean
100
Gases flow and swirl in what layer?
troposhere
100
The 2 most abundant gases on Earth are?
Nitrogen and Oxygen
200
Evaporation is an example of what two systems interacting?
hydrosphere and atmosphere
200
Average weather pattern for a region over a long period of time
climate
200
Process by which plants release water vapor through their leaves
transpiration
200
Naturally occurring, inorganic solid that has a crystal structure and definite chemical composition
mineral
300
State of the atmosphere at a certain time and place
weather
300
mixture of gases that forms a layer around Earth
Atmosphere
300
Naturally occurring solid composed of minerals and sometimes other materials such organic matter
Rock
300
Continuous movement of water on, above, and below Earth's surface.
Water Cycle
400
Series of processes that transport and continually change rocks into different forms.
Rock Cycle
400
Any form of water that falls from clouds
precipitation
400
Least dense layer of the atmosphere?
exosphere
400
Describe the composition and structure of Earth's geosphere?
Solid parts of Earth. Brittle outer layer(crust), thickest layer where magma often flows (Mantle), liquid outer core, solid inner core.
500
How does the geosphere and hydrosphere interact in the formation of sedimentary rock?
Weathering and erosion AND compaction and cementation
500
Explain how the geosphere interacts with the atmosphere when discussing the rain shadow effect?
Moist air (hydrosphere/atmosphere) begins to move up a mountain (geosphere), it cools as it rises higher in the troposphere (atmosphere), rain falls on this side of the mountain. The cool, dry air reaches the top of the mountain and begins to sink. The other side of the mountain will have very little precipitation resulting in a dry climate.
500
How does the water cycle show interactions of Earth Systems?
Through evaporation- Through precipitation- Through cloud formation-
500
How does weather show interactions among Earth Systems?
Weather is influenced by conditions in the geosphere and the hydrosphere. Air masses take on the characteristics of the land or water that they form over. The hydrosphere provides water for cloud formation and precipitation.
