What are the three measurements of gases?
Temperature
Pressure
Volume
What does directly proportional mean?
A term used to describe the relationship between two variables when both variables do the exact thing (when one increases the other increases, when one decreases the other decreases
What are the two types of energy?
Potential and Kinetic
What is the class pet's name?
Lebron
What has no definite volume nor shape?
Gas
Charles
Boyles
Gay-Lussac's
What does vary inversely mean?
A term used to describe the relationship between two variables when both variables do the opposite thing. When one variable increases the other decreases, when one variable decreases the other increases
What are the 7 changes of states of matter
Melting, Freezing, Evaporation, Evaporation, Boiling, Condensation, and Sublimation
What is Miss. Hall's room number?
211
What has a definite volume and shape
solid
Describe what happens to volume and pressure, in Boyles Law?
As pressure increases, volume decrease. As pressure decreases volume increases
Which axis does the manipulated variable lie on?
Which axis does the responding variable lie on?
M: x-axis
R: y-axis
What are the two types of reactions and what do the mean?
Exothermic - energy is released
Endothermic - energy is absorbed
How many day's til Spring Break?
8 Days
What are the two types of solids, explain each
Amorphous Solid: A solid in which made up of particles that are not arranged in a regular pattern
Crystalline Solid: A substance that is made up of crystals in which the particles are arranges in a regular repeating pattern
What are the two variables in Charles Law? What are their relationship toward each other?
Volume and temperature, as volume increase, temperature increases. As volume decreases, temperature decreases.
Out of the three ideal gas laws; which gas law variables vary inversely?
Boyle's law
Explain in terms of energy how an ice cube melts
When ice melts, it absorbs thermal energy (heat) from the surroundings, causing the water molecules to gain kinetic energy and transition from a solid to a liquid state.
When is the last day of school?
June 5th
Explain viscosity, what does a liquid with a high viscosity mean? What does a liquid with a low viscosity mean?
A 50.0 mL soap bubble is blown in a 27.0°C room. It drifts out an open window and lands in a snow bank at -3.0°C. What is its new volume?
45.0 mL
27+273= 300 K
-3.0+273= 270 K
V1* T2=V2*T1
50*270=x*300
13,500=300x
13,500/300=300x/300
45=x
Explain what the manipulated variable and responding variable is
Manipulated: a factor deliberately changed or controlled by an experimenter to observe its effect on another variable
Responding variable: the factor that is measured and observed for a change or response, as it is believed to be affected by the manipulated variable
Explain how energy is transferred between the sun, a tree, wood, then fire.
Sun admits solar energy which the tree absorbs in order to make glucose (chemical energy). Once a tree is cut down a person cuts the tree for firewood. The firewood contains chemical energy (potential energy) and then a person burns it which admits thermal energy (heat)
