They thought of themselves as part of their own little German states. There were 300 German states.

What was King Philip's War? Why did it occur and what was the outcome?

The English colonies in North America took over more and more land. Eventually, the chief of the Wampanoag, named Metacom, decided he would rather die than have no more land. He fought the English for many months before his defeat and the English were free to settle on their vacated land.

How did the seed drill improve production?

Jethro Tull invented the seed drill in 1701. The two hollow blades cut furrows into the ground, and seed would drop out automatically. This made for easier weeding and harvesting, as well as less wasted seed.

Why did Peter the Great want a port?

He wanted a port for trading.

What happened in January of 1701?

Frederick rode to Prussia and held a coronation ceremony for himself. He put the crown on his own head, dressed himself in royal robes and named himself King Frederick I of Prussia! He also crowned his wife as Queen.

How did Louis XIV impact the French settlement?

When smallpox wiped out many American Indians, Iroquois took over. The iroquois tried to destroy the French settlements in Canada. Louis XIV sent troops and they were able to stay in the settlements.

How did the Acts of Enclosure impact farmers?

Farmers enclosed their flocks. They could breed their animals to produce the best stock possible. The poor farmers who could not afford to enclose their stock were forced out of work.

Why did Peter visit Europe?

To try and persuade other nations to join him in fighting the Turks, and to learn about Western ways. He learned about guns, shops, and minting coins. However, he did not persuade anyone to help him fight the Turks.

He united all of the German states into one state and called it, "Prussia". He founded universities, academies for the arts and sciences.

To found a colony based on the beliefs of the Quakers. The Quakers believed that all men and women should be equal. They also believed that fighting was wrong.

How did the Agricultural Revolution change farming? What was the result? 

Farmers learned to rotate crops, based on the advice of Charles Townshend. Every fourth year farmers planted turnips and clover to make the soil richer. This gave the people more grain, which allowed them to keep larger herds.

He made Russia part of Europe, expanded the kingdom and modernized it.

Both generations made Prussia stronger. They both fought to add land to the Prussian kingdom and built a royal palace. Frederick's grandson was named, "Frederick the Great" and this Prussian kingdom would later become the modern country of Germany.

He fought the Swedes for 21 years and in 1702, captured a Swedish fortress. He decided to build a city there, even though it was swampy land and lacked building materials. In spite of these obstacles, St. Petersburg gradually became a beautiful city.
