What is Energy

The ability to do work

100

What is Chemical Energy

Energy that is stored in Chemical bonds.

100

This Energy is used in waves. (two)

Radiant Energy/Light Energy

100

Energy can neither be

Created nor destroyed, but can only transform their forms of energy.

100

Is Hydro Electricity a fossil fuel?

No, Fossil Fuels are Coal, Oil, natural Gas

200

What is Kinetic Energy

Energy due to an objects motion
200

What is an inexhaustible Resource

A resource that can not be used up by Humans

200

This Energy is the Energy that is associated with heat. What is this energy and how do we feel it if we are farther away from that source of heat?

Thermal Energy

Radiant Energy

200

Describe the energy transformation when tossing a baseball.

Potential- Holding it

Kinetic- Throwing up

Potential- Very top of toss before ball comes down

Kinetic- Ball coming down

Potential- holding the ball when it came down

200

What is a nonrenewable resource?

What is a renewable resource?

Example of both.

Non- A resource used up faster then it can be replenished. (Coal, Oil, Natural Gas)

Renewable- A resource that can be replenished continuously (Hydroelectricity)

300

Energy stored in the nucleus of an atom

Nuclear Energy

300

What are the 3 nonrenewable resources that we talked about?

Coal, Oil, Natural Gas

300

What is Temperature?

IF the particles inside an object are moving fast, what does that do to the temperature?

IF the temperature is low in an object, What dose that say about the object's particles speed?

Measure of average Kinetic Energy of the particles in a material.

Raise the temperature

Particles are moving slower.

300

_______________ causes mechanical energy to transform into ___________

Friction, Thermal Energy

300

If the outside Temp is 100 degrees and your indoor temp is 75 degrees; then in the winter your indoor temp is 75 degrees and the outside temp is 30 degrees, how does the heat pump work to warm and cool your building.

The water that is pumped into the house from the ground is the same temperature. Therefore, if the outside it hotter then the temp of the water, the water is cooling the house. but if the outside temp is colder then the water, then the water is warming the house.

400

What is also referred as light energy?

Radiant Energy

400

A device that transforms Kinetic Energy into Electrical Energy

Generator

400

What is Chemical Energy similar to? Why are they different?

Chemical Energy is energy stored in Chemical Bonds which is similar to Potential Energy. They differ based on Chemical Energy is stored in the Chemical bonds while Potential Energy refers to the Potential Energy of the whole object.

400

Describe the energy Transformation of a power plant using fossil fuels for generating electricity.

Chemical - form Fossil fuels

Thermal- Burning Fossil fuels heating water

Kinetic- water particles transforming to steam

Kinetic- Steam moving the turbine

Electrical- Turbine moving shaft in the generator transforming it into Electrical Energy.

400

Give the example of inexhaustible resource?

Solar Energy

500

What is the law of conservation of energy?

energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but can only change from form to form.

500

IF two non moving objects have the same mass, but one is higher and one is lower. The object that is in the higher position will have more what?

Potential Energy

500

IF Golf ball and Bowling Ball have SAME KINETIC ENERGY, which moves faster. Why?

IF both have SAME SPEED, which has more KINETIC ENERGY? Why?

Golf Ball- less Mass

Bowling Ball- More Mass

500

Does you body loose or gain Thermal Energy if you walk outside into 101 Degree weather? Where does Thermal energy travel?

Gain Thermal Energy

From Warmer material to colder.

500

Give the Energy transformations of a hydro electric dam.

Potential- Water behind the dam

Kinetic- Water moving down the shaft under the dam

Kinetic- Water moving the turbine

Electrical- Turbine moving a shaft in the generator transforming it into electrical energy.
