How did the Dawes Act hurt native Americans?
It divided land into individual plots, desiring for natives to live like American settlers did. It got rid of tribal governments and courts and broke down the Natives communal/tribal way of life. Land that was not part of the individual plots was then sold to white settlers, leading to an additional 90 million acres lost.
