he US did not win the Vietnam war because we announced ahead of time that we would not fight a full-scale war. The problem with such an approach is that the objective for US troops was not clear and discernible leading to low morale and it gave the troops little to fight for. On the other hand, Vietnamese forces were encouraged by this news and fought tooth and nail over every inch of their territory.
