What is the tonic?
The tonic is the first note that appears in a major scale. Ex. C is the tonic of the C Major scale.

Melodic patterns repeated at different pitch levels

Key signatures tell us which sharps or flats to play
What is the difference between polyphony and counterpoint?
•Counterpoint (count or point? Hehe) is the technique of combining several melodic lines into a meaningful whole
•Similar to polyphony, but counterpoint makes a melody as a whole, while polyphony consists of two independent melodies

Texture describes the way vertical and horizontal strands of melody are interwoven
