Random Ch.2
100
What are the raw materials needed for Photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide and Water (Plus Energy from the Sun)
100
What does cellular respiration do for humans?
Gives us energy.
100
What "splits" or breaks into two parts during cytokinesis.
The cytoplasm.
100
Name the 4 stages of Mitosis - in order.
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, & Telophase
100
What is the difference between autotrophs and heterotrophs.
Heterotrophs - Can not make their own food (animals) Autotrophs - Make their own food (plants)
200
What are the products of Photosynthesis?
Oxygen and Sugar (Glucose)
200
What are the raw materials for Cellular Respiration?
Oxygen + Glucose (sugar)
200
How many cells would there be in the 4th cycle of cell division?
16 cells. Stage 1 = 2 Stage 2 = 4 Stage 3 = 8 Stage 4 = 16
200
What is Mitosis so important in the Cellular Division process?
Without a nucleus, the new cells would have no purpose or direction. The two new nuclei formed in mitosis give direction to the daughter cells.
200
How does breathing play a role in cellular respiration?
Oxygen is needed for Cellular Respiration to help the cell create cellular energy from oxygen and sugar. Carbon Dioxide is released from our bodies when we breathe out. Co2 is a product of Cellular Respiration.
300
What is the chemical equation of Photosynthesis. (must use the chemical symbols!)
Energy + 6H2O + 6CO2 = C6H12O6 + 6O2
300
Where do the two stages of Cellular Respiration take place?
Stage 1 - Cytoplasm Stage 2 - Mitochondria
300
What stage takes the longest in the cell cycle (aka process of cell division)?
Interphase. The cell has to grow and then copy it's own DNA.
300
What is the definition of Mitosis?
The stage of the cell division when the nucleus splits and becomes two new nuclei.
300
Explain how we get energy from the sun. (Hint: we don't have a chloroplast)
We get energy from the sun Indirectly. If we eat plants, we get energy from the plants that get energy from the sun. If we eat animals that eat plants that get energy from the sun, we get it through two processes.
400
Why is the energy from the sun on the left side of the equation?
It is needed to help the raw materials become products.
400
What are the products of cellular respiration?
Energy + Carbon Dioxide + Water
400
What are the three reasons why cells go through cellular division (or the cell cycle)?
1) Growth 2) Repair 3) Reproduction
400
How is cytokinesis different in a plant and an animal cell? What extra part is there in a plant cell?
A "Plate" forms in a plant cell during cytokinesis. The Plate will eventually become the cell wall.
400
What if the sun was blocked? (like in one of the plagues of Egypt) How would that affect the ability of humans to get energy?
The sun would not be able to give energy to plants to create sugars to grown. Humans would not be able to eat plants that aren't growing. Other consumers would not have plants to eat as well (No grass for cows etc..)
500
Where does Photosynthesis take place? Be specific.
In the chloroplasts of a plant.
500
What type of acid forms in your muscles if there is not enough oxygen in your system?
Lactic Acid
500
Name all the stages of the cell cycle (including the specific Mitosis stages)
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, and Cytokinesis
500
What happens during Telophase?
The nucleus has split into two nuclei. The cell is beginning to look like two cells because the cytoplasm has pinched.
500
How does Cellular Division take place in your body? (for what reasons)
If you are injured or growing cellular division is taking place in your body. It is constantly happening.
