The state of periodontium that describes the JE apical to the CEJ; widened intercellular junctions; epithelial extensions into the connective tissue; destruction to the supragingival fibers; destruction of PDL fibers, exposure of cementum to pocket environment, destruction of bone and eventual tooth loss.
